The Egyptian Nativity

The Egyptian nativity is all about Mary and Joseph travelling to Hermopolis and trying to find a place to stay until god tells them when it is safe to come back. There running away from an evil king called Herod who was trying to kill Jesus!

The wise men came to see Herod and said where is the king of Jews, so King Herod thought that someone was actually trying to take his place as king. So the wise men came to tell Mary and Joseph to run away to Egypt because King Herod was trying to kill the baby Jesus. There wasn't any place to stay so they had to live in the stable but Mary wasn't happy at all so they tried convince the town council members so they can live in Egypt.

There are two Marys and two Josephs because the teachers think it will be to hard to learn so many lines. So the Marys are Jamima and Annebelle, the Josephs are Raymon and Dawood. All the children hate King Herod who is played by Kulvinder. The lights people are Chloe and Bolu and the sound people are Hamida and Ashley. Everyones favourite song is the Egyptian Finale. The play is very funny with silly people and weird jokes.

4N go to Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square

We travelled by Underground today to London's Leicester Square to see the new film Ramona and Beezus.

Most of us loved the film, starring Selena Gomez as Beezus and Joey King as Ramona.

We used our tube maps to locate where we were and counted that it took 11 stops to reach our destination. It was the first time on the Underground for 4 of us and Mahnoor commented:
"It started really fast, and riding on the train blocked my ears!"

4N recommends that you see the film for yourself.

Year 4 Science experiment

22nd September 2010

This week in science we carried out a fair test experiment which involved recording observations and data. The aim of the experiment was to record which type of fruit minibeasts prefered. The purpose of this experiment was to help inform Ms. Willers as to which fruit would be most useful for her to use in her garden to attract the most insects. She wanted to attract more insects to help feed the three new baby birds that had just hatched.

The experiment involved chopping up 5 different types of fruit, apples, bananas, oranges, pears and grapefruits, and placing them in equal quantities outside in the same grassland habitat. Every hour a different group of children would go out and record the number of minibeasts that were eating each type of fruit. The class recorded all their results in a table and from the evidence obtained it was clear that apples were the best fruit to attract more minibeasts to Ms. Willers garden!

See the pics below of our fun day!

what you need:
basic shape of pencil case
mod rock
pots of water
paint brushes
paint
wear old clothes that you don't need

First you have to make your basic shape of your pencil case.Make sure you check that you like your pencil case.

Then you get some mod rock and place it on when wet.use your hands to make the holes go and remember you can only do it with very very wet hands but not too wet because you might brake the mod rock.

After that make sure that your figure is wet enough. Then if all the holes are covered then start painting your pencil case.GOOD LUCK!

The Tinderbox!

This week in year four we have been reading a story called The Tinderbox. This incredible story is all about a soldier who meets a witch and the witch tells him to go down this humongous tree and get a tinderbox for her, also there is three dogs and three boxes of treasure and the dogs have different and not normal sizes. The witch also gave him a apron to put the dogs on. As I was saying , so he climbed the massive tree and inside the tree it was like the inside of a mansion! The soldier walked through the first door and he saw a dog with eyes as big as clocks on the treasure box of coppers. He took the dog and put him on the apron that the witch gave him and then he took as much treasure as he could.

Then he put the dog back in his position and entered the next room. The soldier walked through the second door and he saw a dog on top of the box of silver coins. He lifted the dog and safely put him on the apron. Then he thought the silver was better so he took the silver and threw the copper away and then took the silver. He then entered the next room and could hardly see the treasure box because it was fully blocked by a humongous dog with eyes as big as cartwheels. He picked the dog up and put it on the apron. Then he thought the gold was better than the silver so he took the gold instead. The soldier grabbed the tinderbox and he climbed up the tree... Buy the book to see what happens next!

Facts and Opinions

Facts and Opinions
In year 4 we have been learning the difference between facts and opinions.

A fact is something true, like a spider has eight legs. An opinion is something that could be true or not, like Austrila is the best country in the whole world.

We also learned the story of Saint Goerge. It linked to the facts and opinions that we was talking about, this is a list of facts about Goerge.

. He was a christian
. He was born in Turkey
. He used to be in the roman army
. Saint George lived in the third centry
. George NEVER came to England!!!

now for some opinions
. He was a brave man
. The princess was very happy when he saved her
. George is a hero
and thats what weve been learning in year 4 this week.

fact and opinion

This week in year 4 we have been learning about facts and opinions. We watched some videos and we had to pick out the facts from the opinions. It was quite hard but worth the fun and learning. The class loved it very much and it got our brains running. Also we had our own opertunaty to make our own adverts with facts and opinions in it.
We think a fact is something that is true and can be desproved like for example some people
thought that the sun was around the planets, but it is the other way round.
We think a opinion is something that is a thought like for example "man u is the best football team ever".

Thankyou for reading our blog we hope you enjoy it! by Tobi and Alina 4p!
